TALK BY PROFESSOR MIKE BRUTON ON DARWIN IN SOUTH AFRTICA.

On Saturday 26 July, members and friends of Durbanville Heritage Society were entertained by Professor Mike Bruton as he shared his research on the life and times of Charles Darwin with a detailed account of his visit to the Cape of Good Hope in 1836.

Along with the most interesting slide-show presentation, Professor Bruton exhibited some of the books that he has published on his wide Historical and Heritage research topics. It was indeed a morning that informed attendees on Darwin’s travels around the world on the HMS Beagle and his theories. Of particular interest was the occasion during which the bronze bust sculpture by Johan Steyn, of Charles Darwin was unveiled at Simon’s Town.

On the photograph is Professor Bruton at his exhibition and on the other photograph, Dr Georina Westraadt, deputy chair of the Durbanville Heritage Society, thanking him for the very interesting talk.
