DURBANVILLE HERITAGE SOCIETY STELLENBOSCH EXCURSION

On Saturday 28 June, members and friends departed from the Durbanville library on an outing to Stellenbosch to visit the Rupert Museum.  During a short guided tour, work from the Rupert collection could be appreciated. The Johannesburg station panels, painted by Pierneef impressed the group.

After this visit, the group departed to meet at the Stellenbosch Village Museum to be guided through the four beautifully restored historical houses with period furnishing. Within walking distance from each other: Schreuder house, dated 1709, Bletter house (1789) Grovenor house (1782) and OM Bergh house, in which the Bergh family lived from 1836 – 1877.
